School reopening: FG releases conditions to be met before classes can resume

The federal government has said schools must put in all safety measures recommended by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 before they are allowed to reopen.

It was earlier reported on SOLOPLAY that the Federal Government made a U-turn on full reopening of schools.

The minister of state for health, Olorunnimbe Mamora made the disclosure on Thursday, September 10, in at the PTF on COVID-19 briefing.

He explained that findings have shown that 10 % of positive coronavirus cases in Nigeria affect children and adolescents with more than half of them in the age bracket of 10-18 years.

The minister stated that the findings justify the caution by the PTF that schools must put in all safety measures recommended before they can begin classes.

“It is therefore pertinent at this point to renew the warning of the PTF on the reopening of schools so as not to expose our children to the risk of infections,” he said.

Mamora further disclosed that Nigeria has continued to record low positivity rates even as the number of samples tested has increased.

He, however, pointed out that the low rates recorded do not imply the disease is reducing because many states are not testing adequately.

He noted that it was important for states to continue testing until the country reaches its daily targets.
