FULL LIST: Names of 50 Nigerians dragged to court for supporting EndSARS (Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tacha)
Fifty Nigerians across fields including ace musicians David Adeleke, Innocent Idibia, #BringBackourGirls campaigner Aisha Yesufu and Pastor Sam Adeyemi have been dragged to the Abuja magistrate court over their alleged roles in the recent EndSARS protest.
In the lawsuit instituted by a self-acclaimed human rights activist, Kenechukwu Okeke, the defendants were accused of using Twitter, a microblogging social media platform, to cause uproar through an #EndSARS protest which later degenerated to violence.
Okeke said the action of the defendants is an offence punishable under section 97(2) of the Penal Code Act, C53 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. He said in a tweet:
“Having initiated criminal proceedings against the #EndSARS riots promoters at exactly 1052hrs WAT, 09/11/2020, we shall ensure that same is diligently prosecuted in the interest of defence, public safety and public order.”
