Zamfara Governor: For every rifle submitted by a bandit, there would be compensation of two cows
The Zamfara state government has promised to give repentant bandits two cows for each AK47 rifle surrendered.
The state governor, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, made the promise on Thursday, July 16, when the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu, the director-general of Department of State Security Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi and other top security officers paid him a visit, Daily Trust reported.
“For every rifle submitted by a repentant bandit, there would be compensation of two cows,” he said.
The governor stated that his administration does not want to give money to the bandits to prevent them from using the funds to purchase weapons.
Matawalle explained that cows were chosen as compensation because the bandits being Fulani need the cows to advance their economic interests.
He disclosed that Zamfara state is the epicentre of armed banditry in the country.
